Background: The UF-HHMI
Undergraduate Core Laboratory (UCL) is a new curriculum and laboratory space
that together provide a fundamentally new model for undergraduate natural
sciences instruction. The courses in the UCL are designed to integrate the
natural sciences across disciplines. Our goals are to help students majoring
in the life sciences increase their mathematics, physics, chemistry and
engineering knowledge, and to increase the life sciences knowledge of our
students majoring in mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering. The UCL is part of the Science for Life program at UF, which
was founded with a grant from the Howard
Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). This program has the mission of
strengthening and transforming undergraduate research and interdisciplinary
laboratory education in the life sciences at UF and our partner institutions.
Students completing the UCL curriculum will receive a strong foundation in
the concepts, theory and techniques that are central to modern life sciences
research. Eligible
Students:
Laboratory courses in the UF-HHMI Undergraduate Core Laboratory are open to
Honors students who are enrolled in the necessary co-requisite courses and
who have completed any listed pre-requisites. Students should refer to the course descriptions for details on pre- and
co-requisites. Non-honors students may enroll, space-permitting, with
instructor permission. |
